Human Security Collective (HSC) is a foundation based in The Hague working on issues of development, security and the involvement of citizens in their communities and societies. We believe that the idea of Human Security with its focus on people, relationships and human rights provides an organizing frame for action.
Based on the elements of trust-creation, local ownership, empowerment and collective action, we facilitate conversation between civil society, policy shapers and other actors to promote alternative approaches to current security practice.
As part of the Civic Horizons project, HSC led a regional initiative in Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Libya. The project was designed to empower children, encourage their creative and solution-oriented thinking, and deliver meaningful messages through art and storytelling.

Last year marked the launch of the Peace Project, an eight-year initiative aimed at promoting conditions conducive to peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, and South Sudan.
Under the Civic Horizons project, HSC conducted an online consultation on shrinking civic space in the MENA. The consultation culminated in the report “Operating in Unsettling Times: Stories from Civil Society Organizations in the Middle East and North Africa”.
